Welcome to Elby Photography

Hi! I'm Lori Burkman and this is Elby Photography. My initials are LB, and when said out loud it sounds like Elby so that is where my photography name comes from :)

I am a photography enthusiast and I’m passionate about taking quality pictures that families will love forever.
I am currently a full-time mom to two kids and I love to do photography in my spare time. Though being a
stay at home mom to my kids is currently my main priority, I enjoy trying new things and perfecting
new techniques as I expand my portfolio until my kids are older and I can take on photography full-time.

Included below are a selection of my favorite pics from photoshoots I've done. I hope you enjoy looking at the memories I've been able to capture with so many of my friends. Make sure to check out my official website too!

Savannah!

Savannah was my very first newborn model and it was instant love from the moment we met. I mean really, who wouldn’t adore this little flower-potted angel?

Of course, my love was also helped along by the fact that she is the daughter of a best friend. I was pleased as could be when I was asked to do her 8 month photo session. It really was a blast! I just love her big chunky cheeks and beautifully happy smile:

Baelor

I was thrilled when a friend from high school contacted me about doing a newborn session for their one-month-old son. Working with people I already know and have a friendship with makes it that much more special, especially when it’s someone I haven’t seen in ages. Baelor is seriously just cute as could be! I love his newborn pudge and round cheeks. Few things are better than smushy newborns!

Baby Makoa

I am just such a sucker for newborns. I love them! They make me all giddy and squishy inside and I can’t get over it. Sweet baby Makoa was definitely not an exception, he is SO darling. Hearts for Makoa and his beautiful mom!

Discounts and incentives!

I have all sorts of new ideas for maternity pictures so I'm adding an incentive for maternity portraits. My next 2 maternity sessions with will get their disc of images for free with the price of the session.

In other news, I have some fabulous new backdrops and some fun new props for the studio sessions. I want to try these out, so any non-newborn studio sessions will have a discount of 10% for the next 6 weeks.

Give me a call, fun times will be had!

White and fluffy and covered in ICE!

Up here in the Seattle area, snow is a rare and magical thing. Because it happens so rarely, we as citizens of the Emerald City and her suburbs take it upon ourselves to completely freak out at the sight of snow. We turn into young children composed of equal parts excitement and astounding fear of the unknown. We close schools, abandon our cars on the sides of the road, and don’t show up for work. We do all of this under the pretense that these actions will keep us “safe” from the accidents snow causes commuters; but really it’s all a coverup that makes it so we can all play in the snow with reckless abandon and escape the responsibilities of every day life.

Oh and if you ever wonder why there are more pictures of Simon than of Addie, it’s because Addie is already pretty tired of my over-clicky ways. She’ll only smile for maybe 20 seconds before she runs off and hides from me; deliberately covering her face at times. Simon is still more than happy to pose for his mommy though :)

Over multiple days of snow, we wound up with about 6+inches total accumulation. It was all fun and games… until the ICE came during the night!

We had freezing rain drizzling down for about 18 hours straight during Wednesday late night through Thursday.
We opened Simon’s curtains on Thursday morning to find this:

Our poor snowman became completely encased in an icy tomb. This is one snow man that won’t be melting any time soon.

The roads became insane and our beautiful trees look like they got hit by a ice-surged tornado. With snow being such a rarity, our trees are not too great at holding the vast weight of the ice that follows the snow. I haven't gotten my camera out and about to take pics of the wreckage but it is SO sad! There are broken trees EVERYWHERE. Not to mention nearly 300,000 people without power as a result of busted power lines. Next time we have snow, I sure hope we can skip the ice storm that directly follows!
